Amazon reportedly has plans to inch even closer to its customers.

According to Bloomberg, the tech giant plans to open 1,000 warehouses closer to neighborhoods in the U.S. to help meet consumer demand for online orders.

Unlike many of its warehouses, which typically operate in areas where they're hardly seen, these facilities would shift closer to places like shopping malls, said the report.

The warehouses would help Amazon better fulfill its promises of offering consumers two-day delivery on items as rivals, including Target and Walmart, use their physical stores to help provide same-day delivery on items, said Bloomberg.

Amazon could not be immediately reached for comment.

While other companies are shrinking, Amazon is growing. The company said Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, that it is seeking to hire 33,000 people for corporate and tech roles in the next few months.

With millions of Americans beginning to quarantine in March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, home delivery orders made to Amazon surged.

The tech giant has hired hundreds of thousands of workers in an effort to keep up with demand. On Monday, Amazon said it would hire 100,000 additional workers to pack, sort and ship orders after already hiring 175,000 employees earlier this year.

Earlier this month, the company said it was also planning to hire 33,000 to fulfill corporate or tech roles.
